Summary

[edit]
Description The Hoard contained a large number of objects decorated with cloisonné inlay. In this technique small gold walls are soldered upright onto a backing plate. The resulting cells are then inlaid with shaped and polished slivers of garnet. Fine gold foils with impressed waffle patterns were mounted beneath the garnets. These reflect light and so increase the glittering effect. The patterned gold foil is still preserved in the centre of the oval mount, but the garnet that once overlay it is missing.
