Summary
[edit]DescriptionClock tower, Hay on Wye - geograph.org.uk - 1419225.jpg |
English: Clock tower, Hay on Wye When Hay on Wye's Gothic clock tower was built in the 1880s the people of this small market town could hardly have envisaged that one day it would become a major centre for selling second hand books. That it did was largely the result of the vision of one man, Richard Booth, who opened the first bookshop in 1961. Note the 'Brecon County' sign; this has not existed as a local government unit since 1974 when it was absorbed into the new Welsh county of Powys together with Radnorshire and Montgomeryshire. |
