Notes By the 1700s there was considerably more specialisation amongst English furniture makers, who were now sub-divided into cabinet makers, chair makers, clock case makers, upholsters, japanners, gilders, carvers and so on. The carcass of this clock is enhanced with a delicate pattern of satinwood. A new invention was the long case clock, in which the long pendulum greatly increased time keeping accuracy and ushered in the golden age of English clock making.
