The Green McAdoo Cultural Center in Clinton, Tennessee, in the southeastern United States. The cultural center occupies what was once the Green McAdoo School, which was a school for African-Americans before desegregation. Opposition arose from local citizens, including the current vice-mayor, then a student. In 1956 12 Green McAdoo students (represented by the statues) transferred to the all-white Clinton High School, becoming the first African-American students to desegregate a state-supported school in the South. In 2006, the school reopened as a cultural center and museum dedicated to preserving this legacy. In 2005, the school was added to the National Register of Historic Places.
