True Hermaphroditism.—If one accepts Ahlfelds definition of a truehermaphrodite,—an individual with functionally active glands of bothsexes, provided with excretory ducts,—then a true hermaphrodite has notyet been discovered, and probably never will be. If, on the other hand,one allows an individual to be classed as a true hermaphrodite in whomthere are sexual glands which histologically have the structure respectivelyof an ovary and a testicle, then there is a possibility of true hermaphroditism,for there have been several cases carefully observed that would appear toanswer this description.
