Summary

[edit]
Description

like other syrian cities, in the center of hama is a "citadel." unlike the others, there is no actual citadel in the center of town. just a steep hill in the center where a citadel used to be centuries earlier.

the original citadel was not destroyed in the 1980s, either. it went long before. these days it's basically a city park, albeit one that requires a steep climb to get there, with an archeological dig in the center.

this shot was taken while walking up the spiral path, along the edge of citadel hill.
