Summary
[edit]DescriptionClimbers on El Capitan (25309010797).jpg |
The mountain known as El Capitan in the Yosemite Valley of California. The granite monolith stands about 3,000 feet (900 m) from base to summit along its tallest face, and is a popular location for rock climbers and BASE jumpers. In the picture are two climbers, setting up to climb further from their overnight stop on the vertical face. Zoom in! They still had a long way to go. It was only in 1958 that the route known as "The nose" was first climbed and it took a team of three a total of 47 days. Today, using new techniques it can be done much quicker but it's still a very challenging climb and for experts only. |
