Object type | painting | |||||||||||||||||||||||
Description |
This panoramic scene shows the Chilbo Mountains with their needle-pointed and rounded pinnacles. The inscription in the upper right hand corner and labels throughout the painting identify various peaks, temples, and shrines, such as Gaesim-sa Buddhist Temple. Small figures, dwellings, and trails are placed throughout the landscape, depicted using a bird’s-eye view. This paintingwas regarded as a Jingyeong or "true-view landscape." The style follows the orthodox literati school of the Chinese Qing dynasty, a style imported to Joseon-period Korea. Viewers can imagine following the small figures in the scene on pilgrimages to sacred regions to express one’s Buddhist faith. |
