Description

The Sarah Benedict House was constructed in 1883 in the Queen Anne style, and is located on Prospect Avenue in Cleveland's Midtown neighborhood. Built for Sarah Benedict, a 68-year-old widow of George A. Benedict, editor of the Cleveland Daily Herald Newspaper, the house was on the then-fashionable Prospect Avenue, adjacent to the Millionaire's Row on Euclid Avenue. The house survived the increasing commercialization and redevelopment of the surrounding neighborhood, and was gifted by Dr. Maxine Goodman Levin and restored in 1997-98, becoming home to the Cleveland Restoration Society. Today, this beautiful mansion is one of the several remaining historic structures along Prospect Avenue from before the area's transitioned into the warehouses, office buildings, and parking lots that dominate the neighborhood today.
