Summary

[edit]
Description

The Phillip Gaensslen House was constructed on Prospect Avenue in Cleveland's Central neighborhood in 1870. Built in the Italianate style, the house has double-hung arched windows and ornate arched window headers, as well as an ornate cornice. The house was built for Phillip Gaensslen, whom owned the city's only German-language newspaper, and his family, whom lived in the house for several decades. However, following the family's departure, the house became home to a house for unwed mothers, a church, and the headquarters of a steel fabrication company. In 1984, the house was listed on the National Register of Historic Places, along with several nearby structures, though it was not until the 1990s that the house was restored to its original appearance, and today, it serves as office space.
