| Description |
English: Clearing beside forest track. For most of the length of this forest track, the tree cover is unbroken on both sides of the route (see 1258834). However, there is a prominent steep clearing to the west of the track at this spot.
About two thirds of the way up this photo, and a little right of centre, there is a rock outcrop (which turned out to be of conglomerate; see also https://www.geograph.org.uk/photo/1260398 ). At the time when the picture was taken, Primrose (Primula vulgaris) was abundant on the slope in this clearing, with Common Dog-violet (Viola riviniana) also occurring fairly frequently. The average slope, from the foot of the clearing to its top, where the tree cover resumes, is about 35°. From the top of the clearing, it is only 200 metres or so to the western edge of the forest, across more level terrain ( https://www.geograph.org.uk/photo/1258879 ).
