| Description |
A class 45 diesel locomotive awaits the off at St. Pancras in 1976. Without peer my favourite station of all time. That wonderful single arch train shed such a mind blowing sight to a child on a summer Friday night waiting for the empty stock of The "Starlight Special" to arrive. Only £5 per adult return fare over the Settle and Carlisle line to Glasgow St. Enoch station, for a holiday in Scotland. All those wonderful miles behind steam, with changes of engine at Leeds and Carlisle to look forward to as well. Mostly 'Blackies,' of course but 'Jubs' and even 'Compounds' on occasion. The sight, the sound, and the smell, and the thrill of the jerk as the engine gripped the train and blasted off into the night. I miss it all so much. Camera: Olympus Pen F Half Frame SLR.
