Description
English: One of two prominent bank buildings at the intersection of 6th and Sycamore streets in Clarkston, this one anchors the northeast corner, and was built in 1917 (Coast Banker, January 1918, p.97). The original First National Bank of Clarkston was organized in 1903 and reorganized in 1914 by George H. Waterman associates, who built the current building. Opened in January 1918, the bank's prosperity would be short lived; a slump in wheat prices in the early 1920s made the bank unable to realize its loans and it was shuttered in April 1921 along with 6 other Waterman controlled banks in Idaho and Washington. The Clarkston State Bank, which had itself failed a year after, would have its assets purchased by Montana investors and reorganized as the new First National Bank, but would fail again for good in 1924. The former Odd Fellows Building is to the left and the old Clarkston Garage is on the right
