Summary

[edit]
Description The City West Development in Cincinnati's West End was an attempt around the turn of the millennium to redevelop the low income housing projects that were built on the site of the historic West End and Kenyon-Barr neighborhoods in the 1930s and 1960s. Though it was promising, the buildings have been suffering from poor construction quality and the mixed-income development vision hasn't quite panned out, with the developer going under before the whole development was completed, leaving empty lots along Laurel Park and Ezzard Charles Drive. Several other low-income housing complexes remain across Linn Street, and many are plagued by crime and poverty. The massive demolition of the neighborhood and the difficulty rebuilding it just goes to show how bad of an idea it is to clear urban neighborhoods on a large scale, yet the city has continued to do it in other areas.
