Description A selection of Italianate mansions and an Italianate duplex in the Betts-Longworth Historic District, which date to the mid-to-late-19th Century and have Limestone facades. Though less common than brick or wood, Limestone was used on many buildings in the city of Cincinnati during the 19th Century, primarily as a facade cladding material for homes of the well-to-do who inhabited Downtown, the West End, and Over-the-Rhine. Today, though quite a few limestone-fronted buildings like these were lost to urban renewal in the mid-20th Century in the West End and Kenyon-Barr, many remain in the Betts-Longworth Historic District, Dayton Street Historic District, Downtown Cincinnati, and Over-the-Rhine. They are always very beautiful houses, and can be among the most coveted and expensive historic homes in the urban core.
