English: This photograph was taken outside The Safe Cabinet Company, 1214 Fourth Avenue, in Seattle. On verso of image: James J. Crow, Founder of the town of Kent, and Clarence B. Bagley. Photo taken March 14, 1918, for the [Seattle] Times. They were then the only survivors of those who worked on the University or its grounds in 1861. Filed in Portraits--Bagley, ClarenceBagley, Clarence (1843-1932): Born in Troy Grove, Illinois, and arrived in Seattle in October 1860 at the age of 17, along with his parents. He became a printer, publisher, and writer, a founder of the Washington State Historical Society, and the region's first and preeminent historian. Crow, James Jeremiah: Eloped to the Kent Valley with his bride Emma in 1862, where they later raised 13 children. He later founded the town of Kent.
