Cladonia grayi G. Merr. ex Sandst. Morphotype Photograph of a herbarium specimen taken through a dissecting microscope (x13) showing the presence of small brown pycnidia or apothecia. Assumed to be Cladonia grayi which is the most prevalent chemical variant of a complex that includes: C. chlorophaea, C. cryptochlorophaea, and C. merochlorophaea. This specimen was growing on soil near the Endless Mountain Retreat, S on County Road 601, approximately 2.4 miles from US 250 in Highland County, Virginia, USA. Collected by E.C. Uebel (No. U-369, 8 Jun 2002), identified by Don G. Flenniken. |
