Description

Cladonia grayi G. Merr. ex Sandst., 1929

Photographed in the field.   Assumed to be Cladonia grayi which is the most prevalent chemical variant of a complex that includes: C. chlorophaea, C. cryptochlorophaea, and C. merochlorophaea.

These specimens of Cladonia grayi were growing on soil along the southern portion of the Serpentine Trail (White Trail) at the Soldiers Delight Natural Environment Area, Owings Mills, Baltimore County, Maryland, USA (N 39o24.507',   W 76o51.026').
