Description

Cladonia cristatella Tuck. Morphotype

Photograph of a herbarium specimen taken through a dissecting microscope (x40) showing a cluster of small scarlet apothecia on very reduced podetia.   The apothecia are among the primary squamules.

This morphotype specimen of Cladonia cristatella was growing on a small rock in a woodland on the E side of the high voltage power lines about 150 feet N of the Serpentine Trail (White Trail) at the Soldiers Delight Natural Environment Area, Baltimore County, Maryland, USA (N 39o24.897'   W 76o50.462')
