Summary

[edit]
Description
English: Clachan at Coolanlough. This group of cottages is known as a "clachan" part of a form of land division and management called "rundale", once common in Ireland. Under this system, each family living in the clachan would have cultivated their share of the nearby unfenced land, which was divided into strips and known as the infield. The land beyond, known as the "outfield", was held in common and used for grazing and occasionally growing crops.
