DescriptionCity Park (Eells Park), Colfax, Washington, circa 1912 - DPLA - d0aac3fd951d5dde97e7e838ecac86a7.jpg | Postcard of the fountain at Eells Park in Colfax, Washington. The Congregational Church was founded by Rev. Cushing Eells (1810-1893) in 1878. Eells was the founder of Whitman College and also did missionary work among the Spokane and Colville tribes. With financial help from Eells, Colfax Congregationalists erected a church building in 1879. This building sustained severe damage in the flood of 1910. In 1912 the Women's Park Association, City of Colfax purchased the property and repurposed it as a park named in Eells's honor. Construction soon started (see WCLCF341) on the park. One of the central features is the fountain which is called Lippitt Fountain. The park is located on the west corner of North and East Streets, bordering Lake Street. The park is one of the oldest parks in Colfax. Note: Source is Colfax 100 Plus by Edith E. Erickson and historylink.org. | |||||||||||
