Description
Português: A Cidade Histórica é o primeiro núcleo habitacional do Brasil. O local abriga imponentes prédios e peças muito valiosas do século XVI, e possui uma geografia privilegiada que faz do espaço um verdadeiro museu natural a céu aberto. Tombado pelo IPHAN (Instituto do Patrimônio Histórico e Artístico Nacional) desde 1973 como Patrimônio Histórico Nacional, e reconhecido pela UNESCO no ano 2000 como Patrimônio Natural da Humanidade. No local está presente o Marco do Descobrimento, trazido de Portugal junto com as caravelas da frota de Cabral; a Igreja Nossa Senhora da Pena, padroeira da cidade, com sua torre em louça de Macau, e que possui em seu interior imagens sacras dos séculos XVI e XVII; a Igreja Nossa Senhora da Misericórdia, que guarda a imagem do Nosso Senhor dos Passos; a Igreja de São Benedito, construída pelos jesuítas e que ao lado guarda as ruínas da primeira escola jesuíta do Brasil; e a Casa da Câmara e Cadeia, que abriga o Museu de Porto Seguro.
English: The Historical City is the first housing nucleus of Brazil. The place houses imposing buildings and very valuable pieces of the sixteenth century, and has a privileged geography that makes of space a true natural museum in the open. Tombado by IPHAN (National Historical and Artistic Heritage Institute) since 1973 as National Historical Heritage, and recognized by UNESCO in the year 2000 as Natural Patrimony of Humanity. In the place is present the Marco de Descobrimento, brought from Portugal along with the caravels of the Cabral fleet; The Nossa Senhora da Pena Church, the patron saint of the city, with its tower in Macao, which has sacred images of the sixteenth and seventeenth centuries; The Church of Our Lady of Mercy, which keeps the image of Our Lord of Passes; The Church of St. Benedict, built by the Jesuits and which houses the ruins of the first Jesuit school in Brazil; And the Casa da Câmara e Cadeia, which houses the Porto Seguro Museum.
