Summary

[edit]
Artist
Rinaldo Padovano
Description
English: engraving after a drawing by Rinaldo Padovano of the two large medallions (48 cm diameter) by Giovanni da Cavino representing the two friends Andrea Navagero and Girolamo Fracastoro. The medallions in bronze were commissioned by Giovanni Battista Ramusio to honor their friendship. An engraving of Fracastoro by Alexandro dalla Via after the same medallion is less convincing. The medallion is reproduced e.g. as fig. 15 of J. Dunkerton et al., Burlington Mag., 2013, vol CLV: 4-15; also as fig. 187. of Harold Maxwell, Sydney Selwyn: A history of medicine; Ilg (1887) 61. and Dunkerton et al. (2013) discuss the medallion.
