Summary

[edit]
Description
English: Chwarel Nant Quarry Commercial quarrying began here in the mid 19thC, the workers at first living in cliff-top barracks which eventually fell into the sea. At its height the labour force composed of Welsh, Irish and English quarrymen, numbered about 50. The quarry closed on the eve of WWII. The other two quarries, Carreg y Llam and Caernant, because of the feasability of providing access to the public road system, survived into the 1950s.
