Summary

[edit]
Description

Watercolour painting by James Skene.

The church in the foreground is that of the Prophet Elias. It is thought to have been a building erected in the 11th century, and converted into a church in the 15th century. It was demolished in 1843.

In the background, to the South, is the Church of the Archangels, built in the 12th century and demolished ca. 1850. Later in the 19th century it was replaced with the current church in Odos Taxiarchon.

We are viewing from the area of the Wheat Market, now excavated and closed off as the Roman Agora.
