| Description |
Church of the Holy Cross, Cowbridge, South Wales, 24 July 2020. Built in the late 13th Century as part of the mediaeval walled town of Cowbridge; the church was remodeled in 15th Century. The tower is very unusual and was possibly a watchtower to warn if the town was attacked by the Welsh against the English settlers. In 1403 the Battle of Stalling Down was fought near Cowbridge between an English army and a Welsh one consisting of the famous Welsh Longbowmen, bolstered by some French archers, under Owain Glyndwr, the proclaimed true Prince of Wales. The church was restored in 1850-52 by John Pritchard. |
