Summary

[edit]
Description The Church of the Good Shepherd in Raleigh is one of several along Hillsborough Street within a few blocks of the State Capitol. Constructed in 1914, the Gothic-style stone church building replaced an earlier church that dated to 1875, which became the parish house until it was later moved to a new site to make way for a new, larger structure. The cornerstone of the church, laid in 1899, was quarried under the supervision of the church's then-pastor, Rev. Issac M. Pittenger, and shipped to Raleigh from Israel. Today, the church, at least from what is posted on the sign board out front, appears to be home to a very welcoming congregation, and it is among the many beautiful churches along this particular stretch of Hillsborough Street that are among the many charming buildings in the urban core of the city.
