| Description |
English: Church of St Thomas the Apostle This is the view of the west side and one that initially puzzled historians for a long time about whether the church was finished or destroyed. It was intially planned to be the size of a small cathedral but all that remains is the chancel and the ruins of two transepts. It is now believed that it was completed and that the church survived the devastating French raids of 1359 and 1360 but was demolished during the 17th century because the by then impoverished town could not afford the maintenance. |
