Summary

[edit]
Description
English: Information from the Grade II listing on Historic England: The origins of the parish Church of St Peter in Leckhampton date back to the 12th Century, but the majority of the building is C14. The church tower is an early-C14 construction, as is a large proportion of the interior church. The building was further developed between 1831-34 and 1866-68 by an architect called John Middleton, who appears to have had a successful career designing railway buildings before taking on the remodelling churches in and around Cheltenham.

Some facts from a local history website: - The earliest burial in the graveyard dates from 1670. - The oldest person buried here was 111 years old. - There are three Victoria Cross holders buried here. - Dr Edward Wilson is buried here after dying on Scott's antarctic expedition. - The architect of the British Museum, Sir Robert Smirke, is buried here.

- Many Victorian military Generals are also buried here.
