Summary
[edit]DescriptionChurch at Cill barfionn-Killbarron - geograph.org.uk - 814971.jpg |
English: Church at Cill barfionn/Killbarron These are the ruins of the 6th century church of St. Barron, who was a contemporary of St Columcille and Brendan the Navigator. St. Barron made a number of perilous Atlantic voyages.
It would appear from the records that this church later came under the patronage of the O'Clearys, who lived in the nearby Killbarron Castle. O'Cleary is one of the earliest recorded surnames. It means descendants of Cleirach, who was in the line of the famous Cuira the Hospitable. |
