Summary
[edit]DescriptionChurch Street, Lower Price Hill, Cincinnati, OH (27227792297).jpg | These brick residential structures on Church Street in Cincinnati's Lower Price Hill neighborhood, and among a small handful of structures that have survived on the north-south streets below Saint Michael Street in the neighborhood due to the construction of flood control measures and US Highway 50 during the mid-20th Century in an attempt to prevent a repeat occurrence of the 1937 flood, which damaged that area of the neighborhood. A small pocket of similar buildings survived on a disconnected portion of Neave Street up until a few years ago, when they were demolished for reconstruction of the flyover ramps connecting Warsaw Avenue and US Highway 50. These brick Italianate-style structures are at the margin of the neighborhood's core, and have seen the loss of similar buildings across the street for an automobile junkyard, hardly the best and highest use for urban land in the city center. Unfortunately, though these buildings have survived, the neighborhood around them remains neglected and disinvestment abounds, and it doesn't show many signs of changing course. |
