This is one of two known examples of Eckersberg painting a frame as a trompe l’oeil. Both were made for Rasmus Borch.

  • The merchant Rasmus Borch (1768-1846), father of Karen Margrethe Borch, who married Carl Schiøtz and became mrs. Schiøtz.
  • The physician A. Schiøtz (by 1898).
  • The publishing house manager Ole Wivel.
  • Bought from him by a member of the Schiøtz family, and still owned by the family at the 2007 sale.
  • Sold at Bruun Rasmussen, Bredgade Copenhagen on April 18, 2007 for DKK 200,000 (EUR 27,000). bruun-rasmussen.dk
  • Bought by the Sophia Giesecke Fund in 2016 and gifted to the Nationalmuseum.
