Description
English: Portrait of Christian Ernest II, Duke of Saxe-Coburg-Saalfeld (1683-1745).
Duke Christian is wearing Austrian military uniform. He married Christiana von Coss in 1724 and succeeded to the Duchy jointly with his half-brother Francis Josias (1697-1764) in 1729. The miniature was previously identified as Francis Josias, but the brothers had distinctive features and this painting resembles more closely portraits of Christian Ernest.
