Description
English: Mrs. Evelyn Vandenberg Micka, widow of the late Lieutenant Edward Micka, USN, sponsor of the ship, holds her 10-month old daughter Barbara Lynn Micka, during launching ceremonies of the U.S. Navy destroyer escort USS Micka (DE-176) at the Federal Shipbuilding and Drydock Company, Newark, New Jersey (USA), 23 August 1943.
Lieutenant Micka was assigned to Fighting Squadron 9 (VF-9) aboard the aircraft carrier USS Ranger (CV-4). He was killed during an attack on the Mediouna airdrome, Morocco, during "Operation Torch", on 9 November 1942.
