Summary
[edit]DescriptionChrist Church steeple and The Wave (geograph 6979773).jpg |
English: The 14th Century steeple of Christ Church, all that remains of the Franciscan Greyfriars monastery on the site. Most of the buildings were demolished following the dissolution of the monasteries by Henry VIII, with the tower and spire being the only survivors. These were then incorporated in a new church built in 1832 but this in turn was badly damaged in a 1941 air raid and demolished as being unsafe in the 1950s. Grade II* listed - see LinkExternal link. On the right is part of The Wave, a swimming pool and water park completed in 2019. |
