Summary

[edit]
Description
English: Christ Church Situated on the north side of Avenue road. In 1873 Lady Foley donated a piece of land here for building a new church to serve the working classes, including many of those in service at the large houses and hotels in this expanding area around the newly built railway station. The church was designed by T D Barry & Sons of Liverpool to seat 700 people and was built at a cost of around £9,000. It was consecrated on the 28th December 1875 by the Bishop of Worcester. It has excellent window tracery, including the large east window seen here, which was designed by Charles Eomer Kemp. The 1884 Nicholson organ has 1,486 painted pipes.
