Image title | Every single part of the uniform was closely inspected. The Scots GuardsÕ newest soldiers were under the spotlight today. An infantry regiment of the British Army with a formidable reputation, the Scots Guards can trace its lineage back to 1642, but maintaining their golden thread of excellence on operations and on ceremonial duties is no small feat. Public Duties Incremental Company, F Company Scots Guards, will be the embodiment of the United Kingdom as QueenÕs Guards at the Royal Palaces and on state ceremonial duties in the capital this summer. Consequently, despite some soldiers having only joined the Army in the last few weeks, they have had to perfect hundreds of precision ceremonial drill moves and achieve a standard of turnout of uniform, equipment and bearing which is nothing short of excellence. ItÕs a lot to ask of teenagers, but these Guardsmen have been outstanding. Today the young soldiers were joined by Musicians from the Band of the Scots Guards for their annual inspection from some of the ArmyÕs toughest judges: the Garrison Sergeant Major, the Brigade Major, and the Major General Commanding the Household Division, Major General Chris Ghika. The youngsters were tested on military knowledge, history, values and standards, and their uniforms, presentation and drill was minutely examined. Although the main role of the Public duties Incremental Companies is the delivery of ceremonial, these world class soldiers maintain their warfighting capabilities with regular operational training. Many will undertake some of the ArmyÕs toughest frontline training alongside the 1st Battalion Scots Guards in military exercises overseas later this year. In their ceremonial role they are identified by buttons in threes and embroidered thistles on their collars. Their bearskin has no plume.
