Summary
[edit]DescriptionChorus Cicada... (6926902643).jpg |
...the largest of the 40-ish cicada species found in New Zealand. Cicadas drink tree sap which they suck up through a long proboscis. The proboscis, situated under the cicada's head, is inserted through the bark and the sap is sucked from the tree's xylem. This photo shows a feeding cicada with its proboscis penetrating a tree. |
