Summary

[edit]
Description
English: Bateman memorial garden, Chorley Small memorial garden, with a granite obelisk memorial to Thomas Bateman (1799-1897) and a tiny brick memorial chapel. The memorial is inscribed 'In memory of Thomas Bateman of Chorley, an associate of Hugh Bourne, and one of the fathers of the Primitive Methodist Connexion'. The chapel reads 'Bateman Memorial Chapel 1873' although the apparent age of the bricks suggests a much more recent construction. The graves are a mixture of ones dating from the 1880s and 1890s (headstones horizontal) and ones dating from the past around twenty years. No chapel is marked on the modern OS map at this location
