Eldest son Montague Cholmeley married Elizabeth Hartop and had a daughter Mary Cholmeley who lived 18 days and died 1639. Their other Son Robert Cholmeley also died in 1639. Montague Cholmeley erected the monument 1641. Other members of the family are also commemorated, including Montague Cholmeley who had 8 children and died in 1652, John Cholmeley, died 1768, his wife Penelope Herne (died 1760) and 3 of her children who died as infants.
