22 CHOICE SELECTIONS IN PLANTS, F. R. PIERSON CO., TARRYTOWN-ON-HUDSON, N. Y. The Two New Italian Cannas, ITALIA and AUSTRIA, These two varieties, for which a fabulous price has heretofore been asked, have whetted the appetite of connoisseurs for them. They were sent out for the first time in the spring of 1896, at which time we offered them at 85 each. They have proved on trial to be fully as good as they were claimed to be. The flowers are of immense size; they are as much larger than the best of the Crazy types as Mme. Crozy is larger than the varieties which preceded it. They measure fully eight inches across, petals measuring 334 to '2y« inches across. The cuts on this page are the actual size of the flowers, and convey an idea of their immense size better than any description. Both of these varieties are magnificent. We cannot praise them too highly, for they are the very finest novelties that have been sent out in years. We recommend them with the greatest confidence, knowing that they will give satisfaction to our customers. The exorbitant price asked for them last spring prevented their being purchased by many, but now that we can offer them at a reasonable price, they should be in the hands of every one who is desirous of obtaining the largest and rarest varieties. A. . o+p. j o is a bright golden yellow with the faintest possible scarlet markings on one of the petals — U o LI Id so faint that it is safe to call it a perfectly pure yellow—the slight markings of scarlet • invisible at any distance.
