Description
English: Chitharal Jain Temple is situated in a small village, 7 kms from Marthandam and about 55 kms from Kanyakumari.This temple contains the sculptures of Thirthankaras dating back to 9th century AD. It was converted to a Bhagavathy temple in the 13th century AD. This place is locally famous as Malaikovil. There are 9 stone inscriptions in Tamil Vattezheutthu, Sanskrit and Malayalam dating back to 9th Century A.D. The temple is a protected monument under the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI).
