Description
English: Pictured is an RAF Chinook Helicopter with an underslung load over London.

The BBC requested the help of the Chinook Force for the new series of Top Gear.

A team of personnel from RAF Odiham helped demonstrate the heavy lift capability and versatility of the CH-47 Chinook, plus the expertise of the personnel who support and deliver this capability; from engineers to aircrew, Mobile Air Operations Team to photography experts.

Filming with Top Gear provided the opportunity to participate in additional lift capability training, a skill in high demand as demonstrated in December last year where RAF Odiham responded to a UK national emergency situation to assist with flooding in the North West. Working alongside personnel from 2nd Battalion The Duke of Lancaster’s Regt, the Chinook lifted 500 tonnes of sandbags to block a gap in the failing flood defences.

The heavy lift capability of the Chinook has proved itself in a plethora of environments and continues in its role as a resilient aviation presence around the world, delivering UK Defence capability on the battlefield and in crisis response.
