Description
English: According to Art of the Himalayas: Treasures from Nepal and Tibet, pages 89 and 90 [1], Chhinnamastā (also known as Vajrayogini among the Buddhists) is depicted with her severed head in the left arm, standing over the couple Kama and Rati, in a traditional posture. The central mountain in the background is crowned by clouds, while the side ones are snowy; flying above are two birds (herons or cranes, p. 90). Nepalese painting in paper, 31.1 x 18.4 cm. The book states that it is part of a set with another 18th century folio depicting Chamunda (item no. 85134 of HAR [2], also found in the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts [3]).
