d captain and payed center dur-ig the season. Drake was a star of the first degree intossing baskets. In Wagner, a Freshman, was discovered a^ood floor man, a surety on fouls, and an exceptional for-ward. Weisbecker was a worthy team mate. With Drakeat standing guard and Witherspoon to cover the floor,Maryville boasts of two men whose equals at guarding, speed, and team work are seldom seen. Only one game was lost, that to U. T., but this wasreversed later on the home floor. As a grand finale, theteam won four straight victories on a trip. This is arecord no previous team from the hill has been able todo. The play all season was marked for its cleanness andgeneral team-work two most essential requisites. Basketball 61 GIRLS BASKETBALL At the beginning of the season the outlook for asuccessful team was not so bright. But early in the fallCoach Lois Wilson started the practice and, by hard andpersistent work on the part of the members of the squadsan excellent team was soon ready to play the first gameof the season. Under the coaching of Miss Wilson, a former Mary-ville star, the team soon learned the fine points of thegame and came through the season a winner. At for-wards Captain Marshall, Davis and Webb, played theirpositions in a commendable way. At center the playing ofMoseley and Webb made that position a center ofstrength. The team was no less fortunate at guards forthe playing of Davis, Burchfiel and Nvckols was of thevery best quality. The girls have upheld the distinction Maryville hasearned of always putting out Championship teams, foronce or twice Maryville has held the Southern Champion-ship. Three gsmes were pkyfid at hom.e and six away.Only two were lost, one to the Unive
