Description

PLEASE, NO invitations or self promotions, THEY WILL BE DELETED. My photos are FREE to use, just give me credit and it would be nice if you let me know, thanks.

Ahu Akivi is the most important and elaborate platform in the interior of the island. They are the only statues that look at the sea on the whole island. But like all the other ones on the island they are looking toward the village that was located between them and the sea, to watch over and protect the inhabitants of the village.

Legend says the seven statues of the platform are related with the seven young people who were sent to explore the island before its first colonization by King Hotu Matu’a.

The priest of Hotu Matu’a had a dream, his soul flew across the ocean when he sighted the island. He sent seven explorers sailing through the sea to locate the island. But it cannot be true as the moai statues were made after the year 1440 AD, the first settlers arrived on the island around the 5th century (401 - 500 AD).
