Summary

[edit]
Description
English: Tukuturi Moai, the kneeling moai, measures 3.7 meters (12ft) high, weighs about 10 tons, it is the only moai that looks towards the Rano Raraku (volcanic crater).

The statue is unlike any other on the island, since its appearance is much more natural and realistic. The head is rounded, with carved eyes that stare and his chin has a goatee. But what sets it apart from othe moai is that Tukuturi has the whole body.

It is shown with the legs bent back, the buttocks resting on his heels. The hands are on the thighs instead of on the belly. It is a posture used in Polynesia to show reverence.

Rapa Nui National Park, the moai factory. The moai were carved and then taken to the ahu (ceremonial platforms) all over the island, to honour the memory of the ancestors.

The southern slope of the volcano is amazing to see with dozens of stone heads sticking out of the ground.
