Spring Catalog of Seeds. Bulbs and Plants for 1920 105 SUMMER-FLOWERING BULBS Bulbs are favorites with all. They are so easily grown and so satisfactory to everyone that they are invaluable. Bulbs require no skill and very little attention to grow to perfection. Plant them in the garden in spring, after severe freezing is passed, and they will soon be up and will flourish and bloom all summer. In autumn, after early freezing, the Bulbs should be lifted and stored in a cellar or some other position away from frost, for planting again the fol- lowing spring. We are headquarters for summer- flowering Bulbs which we grow in hundred-acre lots.

1YEW DAHLIA, DEE-LIGHTED, See page 110 DAHLIAS, The World's Grandest Sorts There are more than 1000 named Dahlias in cultivation, out of which we have selected a few—the very cream of each class—to offer our customers. They are absolutely the best varieties, excelling in size and elegance of bloom; early, abundant and continuous flowering qualities, long stems, perfect habit and easy growers. DAHLIA PRICES — TUBERS Prices quoted are for divisions of field-grown Tubers. We have a stock of tubers of all kinds offered. Should the supply of any kind become exhausted we will supply fresh, vigorous pot pants at planting time in May or June at the option of the purchaser. The Truth About Tubers. Tubers are divisions of field grown roots carefully divided so that each one will contain an eye for sprouting-. (We guarantee all tubers we send "out to have live eyes.) They start a strong- growth and are soon blooming-, some blooming well up to frost, others exhaust themselves earlier. For mail trade tubers are in a general way best. The size of the tubers counts for nothing, large or small are equally good, if the eye is 0. K. The Truth About Green Plants. These are cuttings, which have been rooted from sprouts of tubers which are started in January or Feb- ruary under glass. If old enough and well established, they ship well with careful packing. If too young and tender, they do not carrv well. As a rule thev do not bloom as early as tubers, but bloom better in late sum- mer and autumn. All green plants sent out by us are strong, well rooted and well hardened off and sure to do well In general, green, plants ar as good as tubers, if shipped properly. If necessary, we ship plants in paper pots without disturbing roots very much. The Truth About Dahlia Seed. Seed started early will bloom fairly early, or in three to four months. Sown in the garden in May, will bloom well in August. Many seedlings are really very fine (no two alike) and all, single or double, are profuse, showy and interesting. For seeds see page 13. Long Stems. We offer very few Dahlia? that do not produce flowers on long, strong stems, suitable for cutting for vases, etc., and nothing is more decorative than these long-stemmed Dahlias. Ao matter how good a variety may be, if it is not fit for cutting, we do not grow it. Dahlias vs. Peonies. If a good new Peonv is worth two dollars, a good new Dahlia is worth ten dollars Peonies bloom two weeks, Dahlias two to four months. A Dahlia will produce about ten flowers to a Peony*? one. and in most ca?es are fully as good and showy, but Peonies bloom early when we have no Dahlias, hence they do not compete. But, remember you get more for your money in Dahlia? than in Peonies. Dahlias bloom well in two to three months, Peonies in twelve to twenty-four months.
