Text Appearing Before Image:
Volga — This is, without exception, the nearest approachto perfection of any variety. Heads uniformly solid: Inthis respect it is a wonder, as the heads are of aboutequal size and shape, weighing from twelve to fifteenlb. each. In one field of three acres there was not asingle plant thrown out, or showed, in any respect, any variation from a true and valuable type. Unlikemost types the heads are perfectly solid and the stemdoes not run into the head nearly as far as in othertypes, and the flesh is exceedingly firm, tender andwhite, making it a most desirable form for kraut, aswell as for all other purposes. The most severewinter known in this section did not inflict the slight-est injury on the Volga; not a leaf was lost, while allother kinds suffered terribly. This type is remarkablefor its quick-growing habit. We have noticed par-ticulars this sort and find that it will mature itsheads fully two weeks earlier than any of our late-growing kinds. Pkt., 15c; oz., SI.00; lb., §15.00.
