SPRING CATALOGUE OF SEEDS, BULBS AND PLANTS FOR 1903. 43 Extra E^rly L;in)a BeaP- This remarkable early Bean originated with K. H. Palmer, Kennedy, in Northern New York, who says : " What makes this the most valuable of all Lima Beans is its extreme earliness, especially for Northern latitudes iike this where ordinary Limas will not mature. Seed sown May 24th last grew into large vines and ripened seed August 19th, just 85 days." Mr. F. Gould, Ventura, Cal., who grew an acre or two of this Bean for us last season, writes ; *' Your early- Lima is far in advance of other kinds. Burpee's Bush Lima planted the same day, in same held, is now nicely in bloom while yours have pods of first settiug almost fully grown, and still a great profusion of bloom and smaller pods in varying stages of growth. Looks to me like a very ualuable acquisition." The planting we made on our home grounds May 15th made a quick growth, showing buds June 15th, and blossoms and mature Beans soon followed. All pods were ripe and dry in August. It is a prolific Bean, making less growth than the ordinary Lima, but apparently yielding much bet- ter. Poles six feet high accommodate the growth very nice- ly. Pods are produced along the entire length of vine, start- ing within six inches of the ground. "With these facts, it needs no extra praise from us to convince our customers that the Extra Early Lima is one of the most valuable of veg- etable novelties ever introduced. Not only is it valuable in the North, where other Limas will not mature, but its ex- treme earliness makes it a most desirable Bean anywhere. Packet, 20c.; 3 pkts. for 50c. Pint, 65c. Quart, $1.25.
